Absentee & Early Voting Information

There are two election authorities that cover District 129 communities – Kane County Elections (all non-Aurora residents) and the Aurora Election Commission (Aurora residents only).

Kane County Election Commission (non-Aurora residents):

Absentee Balloting:

Registered voters are eligible to cast an absentee ballot only if they meet one of the following conditions:

  • Persons expecting to be absent from Kane County on election day;
  • College or university students temporarily residing away from their home precincts;
  • Persons expecting to be serving away from their home precincts on election day as election judges or election officials employed by any election board, County Clerk or law enforcement agency;
  • Persons serving on jury duty on election day;
  • Persons in jail as pre-trial detainees not serving jail sentences;
  • Persons physically incapacitated or hospitalized;
  • Persons whose religious beliefs prevent them from voting in person on election day;

By Mail. You may request an absentee ballot to be mailed to you. To apply for an absentee ballot, complete, sign, and mail the on-line absentee application http://www.kanecountyelections.org/absentee/ABSAppl.pdf, or you may call the Kane County Elections office at 630-232-5990 or email them at elections@co.kane.il.us to request a ballot or ask any questions. The ballot needs to be postmarked by the day before the election and must be in the elections office within two weeks after the election.

In Person. You may vote absentee in person at the County Clerk's office beginning 40 days prior to an election until the day before the election. If you are unable to come to the office at Elections Department, 719 S. Batavia Avenue, Bldg. B, Geneva, to vote and would rather not vote by mail, you may vote early at locations spread throughout the county. Early voting begins 22 days prior to the election through 4 days prior and the only requirement is that you are a registered voter in Kane County.

Early Voting:

  • Early voting allows voters to cast a full ballot before the observed election day. The 2007 Consolidated Election early voting begins on Monday, March 26, through Thursday, April 12.

  • Early voting is conducted at assigned locations throughout Kane County. These locations and times will be announced soon. Voters may go to any one of these assigned locations to vote early. Early voting is NOT conducted at usual polling places. Polling places will only be open for voting on the observed Election Day.

  • Early Voting and Absentee Voting are not the same thing. With early voting, you may vote without an excuse. With absentee voting, you need a reason why you cannot make it to your polling place on election day. Also, you may not be mailed a ballot to vote early. You may only be mailed an absentee ballot.
