AURORA -- As its April referendum nears, the West Aurora School
District will continue to host organized forums for residents curious
about the district's operations and financial condition.
Residents will vote April 17 on a request for a 50 cent hike
in the School District's operating tax rate.
West Aurora referendum forums:
- 7 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at Jefferson
Middle School, 1151 Plum St., Aurora.
- 7 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at
Freeman Elementary School, 153 S. Randall Road, Aurora.
- 7 to 8:30
p.m. March 8 at Jewel Middle School, 1501 Waterford Drive, North
Aurora.
- 7 to 8:30 p.m. March 12 at Herget Middle School, 1550
Deerpath Road, Aurora.
For more information, call Randi Ochsenschlager, School Board
secretary, at (630) 301-5033.
The increase would bring the district's tax rate to $3.53 per
$100 assessed valuation. That rate would be in place for the 2007-2010
levy years, school officials said.
The 50-cent hike would amount to a $333 tax increase for the
owner of a house with a fair market value of $200,000.
The upcoming forums will give residents the opportunity to talk
directly with Superintendent Jim Rydland about the needs of the
district's 18 schools and 12,500 students.
